The Cars

A couple of weeks ago Ric Ocasek, the songwriter, rhythm guitarist and co-lead singer of iconic 70/80′s Rock group The Cars died at the age of 75. When I heard I decided on a whim to go watch a few videos on youtube and was reminded of how many great songs they had, even though they were never in my top 5 80′s groups. Ric wrote all the songs but most of my favorite Cars songs were sung by the other lead singer, and bassist, Benjamin Orr.  Orr died Oct 4th 2000 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 53.  

Having enjoyed watching a lot of performances by them on youtube the last couple weeks, a tribute to both Ric who died so recently and Benjamin who died so long ago, a couple of live performance videos filmed in Germany in late 1978 for a music show and a Live Aid performance, where to be honest I think the only live thing was lead vocals but it’s a great song and their biggest hit.  Candy-O - vocal Orr, Take What You Want - vocal Ocasek, Drive - vocal Orr

Really feeling the loss of #Ocasek just as much as when we lost #Orr (a personal idol of mine). #TheCars would've been legendary even if they stopped making music after their debut self-titled which is one of my all-time favorite albums.
