When they brought my first son back to me after his circumcision, his eyes were glazed over, and he was quiet and weepy. He looked like he'd been in a war. They told me he'd have anesthesia, but afterwards, they informed me that the "anesthesia" was that a man had dipped his finger in sugar water and let my baby suck on it during the traumatizing genital procedure. The only other time my son ever looked like that, quiet, weepy, eyes glazed over, distant look, he had broken his freaking wrist. So that just tells you how much pain my little baby was in. It broke my heart as a mother.

He experienced multiple adhesions during healing. Everytime, you have to peel back the foreskin--that is trying to heal--and clean there to prevent adhesion. Once one of my hairs got caught under there and wrapped around his penis and was cutting off the fucking circulation to his glans while he screamed red-faced and I frantically tried to figure out the issue.

I did some research and learned the facts--that it doesn't prevent or treat any medical condition, that other countries use it as a last resort, that painful side effects are common. Years later research emerged that about 100 babies die a year in the US because we circumcise before vitamin K spikes AND before we've had a chance to diagnose blood clotting disorders.

In any case, I didn't circumcise my youngest son. Consequently I never had to do any weird shit while changing his diaper, no pulling back his foreskin, no cleaning a wound that's trying to heal while piss and shit gets rubbed on it all day. It was no different than wiping his finger. He never had any trouble with his weiner whatsoever.

It was the opposite of what they said. They said the intact kid would have penis problems and the circ'd kid wouldn't. I had the exact opposite experience.

I'm also a HUGE supporter of bodily autonomy. I freebirthed #2 at home. It was important to me back then and it has only become more important to me as I've gotten older. Bodily autonomy should be codified into the federal constitution. Why are we making a decision for them that they can absolutely make for themselves at age 18 after having a chance to consider all the information?
