So because I'm sitting here doing PT and my mind is wandering, I was thinking about the "Dean doesn't like dogs" discourse and I just...

Once Dean expresses annoyance about dogs, and it isn't really even about dogs as much as it is about dog fur and dog smell.

Hell, I have a dog, and dog fur and dog smell are definitely annoyances.

But I digress.

So those supposed real Dean fans (read: actually Sam fans) ignore all of the other developments we see regarding Dean and dogs and cling to one thing he said once upon getting his car back (and coming back from freaking Purgatory)...why?

So they can give Sam something else (in this case, Miracle the dog).

You know what Sam got that Dean didn't? Shielded by his father for as long as he could from monsters and how his mother died. He got teachers who saw something in him even as he was bouncing from school to school. He got such a good education that he got a free ride to Stanford. He got friends in college and a girlfriend and he got to have normal social interactions like parties and dorm living. He even got a girlfriend or two during the run of the show, one whom he cared about so much that he brought her back from the dead. Then he got married, had a kid, and lived a good, long life.

Dean was six when he shot his first gun. Two years after he watched his mother die in a fire. He was 11 when he built his own gun. He got left in jail for stealing food...for Sam...and then he got taken away from the safest place he had known since he was four years old. He got his ass whooped when Sam ran away as if it was his fault. He was so mentally (and probably physically) abused that he looked at Sam going to college as abandonment, and he cowered around his father, even when he became a man who could take him in a fight if necessary. He got meaningless one-night stands, and then the one relationship he had on screen that really worked, they pretended wasn't really happening. Then they killed the person closest to him and left him to die on a rusty nail.

Let him have the damn dog, FFS.

Okay, this made me emotional. I never understood why i disliked sam and this post made the reason so clear.

Dean really gave it all up. Really i mean dean went to hell for his sake and gave up so much. It wasn't just john, it was dean who literally sheileded him in their childhood from monsters for as long as he could. He, himself was a child, trying to protect sam.

His whole life, he took care of sam, in ways nobody could. I mean nobody gave a fuck about sam, it was only dean, fighting and protecting him even from his own fuck ups. He had let go of his own girlfriends for his sake. His first girlfriend, he let go so as to go and take care of him. Even during lisa, he went ahead and chose him. He let go of benny. He let go of castiel, the only person he loved so deeply to save his fucking ass. He cooks for him, saves him and treat him like a child even during season 15. He was literally pampered as much as one could be in that situation. Dean is like a helicopter hovering over his ass and taking care but in return dean gets nothing but more expectation. Sam doesn't return that care but feel no shame in asking it for more. He rejoice when he realizes how much dean loves him, but won't even make an effot to try find his brother if he disappeared.

His stans are same. They expect dean to lay his life for sam, so he lives a little more comfortably. How dare he get a dog. Its sam who deserves everthing.

Just so my own brain doesn’t explode:

The entire point of giving Dean the dog was Dean needed something to believe in. That’s why the dog’s freaking name is Miracle FFS.

I will never not laugh at Sam stans who seem to really not understand why Dean was the writers’ favorite and I love pointing out that were Jared a better actor maybe things would have been different. But you put Jensen and Jared next to each other and to most people the one who shines is Jensen. Them’s just facts.

Every time they publicly whine about how the writers preferred Dean (and Jensen) they just accentuate the fact that Jared wasn’t compelling enough an actor to write the good stuff for.

So weird they accuse the writers of only thinking of Dean as a stereotype, yet they want to rid Dean of something he loves and can be gentle with. If having Miracle around was his one motivation to get up and live another day, so be it.

Ffs, first they want to take Dean’s job application and give it to Sam. Now it’s his dog. Man can’t have nothing.

And speaking of Jared, maybe if he didn’t act like a destructive toddler, he could’ve been given more props or a dog but they were smart enough to know by then that giving him something else to mess with would just cause more delays.

Dog Dean Afternoon was season 9.

Miracle showed up in season 15.

They really don’t think character development exists, do they?

It seems they don’t.

Also, a lot of it was probably not that he didn't like dogs(please remember one if his "deaths" in Mystery Spot was because he saw a golden retriever and just HAD to go over and pet it) but that he knew their lifestyle didn't really allow for taking proper care of a dog. He was probably worried the dog could get hurt somehow. So he played "tough" on it.

Also even ignoring that explanation, season 3, he loves dogs as seen in his reaction to the golden retriever. Season 4 he's KILLED by Hell Hounds. Season 8 he says no dogs. Season 9 is Dog Dean afternoon. Season 15 he's thrilled to find a dog alive after every other living thing in the world disappears

It would make sense as you all point out as character development that Dog Dean Afternoon helped him rediscover his love of dogs.

He also always liked animals - in season 2 Tall Tales one if Loki's victims was a professor involved in animal experiments and Dean was basically like well he deserved it. In season 3 I think it was with the witches, he was like "why do he rabbits always suffer for it".

Dean actually had a bit of a history of liking animals including dogs.

It’s great how well regarded Jensen and Danneel are in their community.

Jensen recently at Green Farm Academy

I just finished watching his speech.

This picture is from this week. He spent time with the graduating seniors.

I have to say, if Jensen did write that speech himself, he did a great job. It was entertaining and heartfelt and didn’t talk down to the students at all.

Jared fans are going to jizz because he referred to him and Jared haters are going to lament that he brought him up, but within the context of what he was talking about it made sense and, personally, I liked it for what he was trying to get across to the students. Yeah he threw in a “brothers off set” or however he phrased it, but it didn’t come across the way it does in panels. 🤣

Everything doesn’t have to be about taking sides (IMO).

He also gave a shout out by name to Deirdre Hall which I thought was sweet and he gave the background to how he ended up going to L.A. instead of college and I had never heard that story before.

For me to sit and watch a 20 minute high school graduation speech it had to be pretty good. 🤣

One other observation…I think this summer is 3 years since the Ackles moved to Connecticut (if Instagram is accurate) and it’s really neat to see how much a part of the community Jensen has become.

It does. Not everything is about shipping. One of the first things we see the brothers do outside of talking about hunting is Dean's tape collection and "driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole"

The whole reason Dean gave Cas a mixtape and it was known to be in character for Dean to do something like that starts way back in the pilot with that box of tapes.

That really isn't fair, I was talking about the Wincest mention. Not Destiel. As in Winchester Bros probably has nothing to do with shipping in this context. It's just generic SPN merchandise. There's lots of Winchester Bros/Brothers/Winchesters stuff out there because they're the main characters.

I brought up the mixtape just to relate it back to the fact that cassette tapes have a long connection with Dean going back to the pilot. It was more this is why Dean making a mixtape is in character and thus meaningful but it's also generic to the show. The mixtape scene wouldn't exist without that previous history. And that previous history is why it makes sense imo as generic fan merchandise. I mean I think the earrings are butt ugly but they aren't really that out of left field for fan merchandise for a corporate entity that churns this stuff out like Hot Topic. (as for the choice of name, copyright probably, a band or album name would be copyrighted, including Supernatural possibly, Santana had a highly successful album name Supernatural so putting it on a cassette might be iffy, and fan merchandise is to basically to say "Hey I like this show!" with varying degrees of subtlety and they weren't going for very subtle and after the name Supernatural anything Winchester related is the most generic thing about the show)

I know Jensen didn't like Dean dying in the end but his idea of Dean's ending isn't much better like wdym Sam dies and Dean would be left alone and that's his biggest fear 😭 Now I'm kinda not complaining about the canon ending with Dean not really being able to move on after Cas + Cas being in Dean's heaven bc it could've been much worse ig 💀 Which also makes me question his statements during The Winchesters era when he discussed about saving Cas from the empty

I believe he was talking about a dream he had, not that it was how he wanted Dean’s ending to go.

Actually I don't think Jensen's ending is necessarily bleak. Facing your biggest fear doesn't always end in a bad way. He did want it to end with Dean on his own. Though he may have gotten the original idea from the dream who knows.

Personally I think Dean would have figured out a way to deal with it. Because Dean is NOT naturally a loner. He's attracted to people (I'm not talking sexually I mean interacting with and being around). Dean has a huge heart.

He almost can't help but come to care even when he doesn't necessarily want to. Eventually something or someone was going to get under his skin enough, and that will lead to others. He'd end up making some friends and besides he still did have SOME friends. Donna, Jody, Garth... eventually he'd build a small little community for himself. In my opinion.

Dean always had a worse view of his ability to function on his own than he did in reality. In fact pretty much every time Dean was without Sam, he did pretty well. He went to that boys home, started getting great grades because he actually is smart and had time to actually focus on it, being good in a sport, getting a girlfriend. Sam went to the Cage and Dean was more successful on his own than Sam was, except for college but Sam got a free ride almost everything was paid for it wasn't quite "the real world" yet. And he was planning on asking his girlfriend to marry him while never telling her the truth. Dean got a job in construction (usually pays pretty well), he made friends(not very close but it was a start, they hung out and had beers), did a good job of slotting himself into Lisa's family life and was genuinely good being a partner and father figure at it even if he was still grieving and not perfect.

Sam whenever he was on his own either kind of went off the deep end or just kind of ended in a lame position, like being a motel handyman after Dean went to Purgatory, lying to his girlfriend for most of the year about his real life with no plans to ever tell her the truth and apparently not making any friends.

Imo the fact of the matter is it was DEAN keeping Sam from going off the deep end, not vice versa.

Imo Dean deserved to live a life without that responsibility. A real life in the real world.

I keep seeing wincesties cry about how cas is jealous of sam and how he wants to kill sam or whatever. Since the purcon, hate towards cas and misha is all time high. While i can't do much about this hate, because they are crazy, i can prove it to them, that the jealousy isn't from cas's side. Its from sam.

Do they remember their fav overdramatic show where he was ready to kill himself, just so he could blackmail his elder brother into losing everybody he held dear.

"Another vampire..another angel" rings a bell. He really has the audacity to throw this line as if he was just an angel in their life and not the one true love of dean's life. He is trying to downgrade cas's importance as much as he can. He is so jealous that he was ready to endanger his own life into blackmailing and tightening his hold onto dean.

He was jealous of amara. A woman, dean was forced to be attracted to. He was trying to fight that attraction, confessing to sam and what he does, as soon as his life was endangered and he knew Dean would accept anything he said, he went that dean would be choosing amara over him and of course dean was crying no, trying to placate him.

Sam is jealous of anybody and everybody that comes into dean's life. Because he had to be number one in his brothers life, who keeps giving and is forced to give a little more. I am still surprised that he didn't pull any stunt to keep cas away from dean. Dean would have given him another of the beatings he gives when sam gets irritating and he would have quietened down at once and accepted cas is gonna be there and he as well may keep his mouth shut, before dean quietens him down.

Sam absolutely is jealous of anyone that threatens his position as number 1 on Dean’s call sheet (see what I did there?🤣) and I don’t think that’s discussed enough.

Interesting that those Jensen stans who are now calling out all Destiel shippers delusional and haters just because “he doesn’t think Dean is gay” (while destiel shippers aren’t hurt because of it specifically but ok) are silent on j2/wincest shippers who hating on Jensen daily and his wife and children
