THIS WEEK kicks off Midia Ninja's Republica campaign in Rio de Janeiro. I sat down with Rafael Vilela of Midia Ninja Sunday night at their Sao Paulo headquarters, on the eve of Monday's Praia Vermelha occupation protest. While helping to coordinate over 150 members for Rio's protest, keeping up with the 450 affiliates predicted to join them at Praia Vermelha, Vilela seemed confident of the effects the occupation would have on Brazil's public policies in the coming months. With Brazil's presidential elections on the horizon the campaign gives Brazil's youth time to hash out their collective voice in a peaceful and bipartisan environment. Says Rafael about the group's goals in Rio, "We're going to join many different organization together to get to know ourselves. It's an autonomous zone where we can share ideas and it allows us to think about rebuilding new policies. This (collaboration) is fundamental to Midia Ninja".
