Resist Management Oppression: Defend the Right to Protest on Campus On Friday 6th December 2013, activists, including the coalition group Sheffield Strikes Back, the Revolutionary Socialists Society, the Autonomous Students' Network and the Living Wage Campaign, met outside Sheffield Students' Union to protest against the national crackdown on activism on campus, which has seen five students suspended from Sussex University, over 40 arrests and police brutality at University of London protests, and a possession order being placed on all university grounds by the University of Sheffield. Protesters taped their mouths and stood in silence in front of the Student's Union building, before moving towards Firth Court, where the offices of many senior management figures are. Security locked the doors to the building to prevent an occupation, and at least one member of security was seen using force on a protester to prevent them from gaining access. After half an hour, activists moved back down to the concourse and eventually dispersed - though not before security were heard describing key individuals to unknown persons on the phone.
