OCD as a Spiritual Journey
Looking at OCD through the lens of Holistic Health and Healing is looking at all the ways that we can be impacted by OCD and ways to bring healing. Holistic Health is whole person healing through looking at Social, Emotional, Physical, Mental, Environmental, Financial, Spiritual and Intellectual factors. OCD not only impacts us Mentally but also Physically on our health. OCD impacts us Socially on how we feel and connect with other people. OCD impacts us Financially if our work is impacted, cost spent on compulsions and in the cost of OCD treatment. OCD impacts us Spiritually through our feeling of being able to connect with a higher purpose, to God, to feel safe, supported and connected to life.
OCD can impact us in so many ways and I want to explore whole person healing. I do not just want to look at OCD through the Mental lens. If we only look through the Mental lens we leave out so many other parts of ourselves and our life that need healing also.
Seeing OCD as a Spiritual Journey is a process of self-discovery. Seeing OCD as a Spiritual Journey is making meaning out of pain and writing an empowering story for yourself. Facing fears and doing ERP is some of the hardest work we can do. Learning how to navigate painful disturbing thoughts, images, urges and sensations is so hard. Having our values and everything we care about and love, and even ourselves be up for OCD to attack is so difficult. Facing something that tries to break you, that's so brave and shows tremendous strength. OCD as a Spiritual Journey is a journey of ups and downs. You choose, you decide what your life will be, not OCD. Your life can be better after OCD than it was before.
In this video I read 2 quotes from the book Relationship OCD by Sheva Rajaee. I highly recommend this book; you can gain so much from it no matter your OCD theme.
