Deep Wood
I've seen the idea of a kind of forest-ocean where the trees get taller or "deeper" the farther into the woods you travel, and that the creatures inside it get larger, like whales in the ocean. I have some ideas.
Oxygen levels are much higher in the Deep Wood. This is what allows the animals to get so large, as such monumental size cannot be supported by lower O2 levels. The same creatures can often be found in much smaller sizes outside the Wood, as they adapted and evolved for higher altitudes. The deer are a wonder, but the insects are the stuff of nightmares.
The tops of the trees grow to the same height. If you climb to the top of a tree on the edge of the Deep Wood, or are standing on a cliff overlooking it, you will see the canopy like an ocean, flat all the way across. If you climb to the top of a tree in the wood's center, you will seem lost in a sea of tree tops. A different kind of treeline.
The Deep Wood is a massive, somewhat radial valley. It is a slow descent, with massive trenches and cliffs like the ocean floor. At its lowest point, it is far, far below the sea level of the nearest coast.
There are few, if any, sources of water in the Deep Wood. While it is typically very humid, and rains frequently, water gathers on the ground very little, instead soaked up by the flora and soil.
There are some theories that this has to do with the (primary) moon, which is more or less stagnant in the sky, ever on the horizon from the Deep Wood.
Sunlight is less and less available the deeper into the Wood you travel, and many plants that are a verdant green outside the Wood can often be found in deep red, purple, or even black.
