oceanhands replied to your post “*every time i see a post about japanese people and december/xmas that...”
Most of me wants to remain blissfully unaware, but I'm painfully curious to know what this could possibly be referring to...
its one of those posts that always come around december diagnosing how a diverse cast of characters would spend december (like the intention is to avoid things like canon jewish characters celebrating christmas rather than hanukkah)
anyways they had a jp character on the list and made the very common mistake of equating christmas with christianity in the eyes of japanese people, which straight up just doesn’t happen unless they’re explicitly christian. like this character’s white relations are canon areligious so there’s no reason why she’d be at any risk of being incorporated into religious xmas celebrations so there should be no issue??? idk the vibe was that there would be a conflict between xmas and shinto celebrations and the character would, of course, love and prioritize shinto celebrations around december which, good fucking luck doing that if the character lives in the us...
but i think honestly my biggest issue is making broad strokes on jp characters and how they would handle xmas because inevitably you could be right, but you could also be wrong, and since this is supposed to be advice for people creating fanart and fanfic its an attempt to limit creators where no limit or offense would exist
