the water felt cool and slippery against kida’s skin as she drifted, white hair splayed behind her to swirl lazily in the slight current made by the soft treading of limbs. her eyes closed, she let the sun beat upon her skin as laughter drifted faintly from elsewhere in the small park. she felt lucky to have found this spot, completely clear of anyone else, shaded partly by overhanging branches while also leaving areas of radiant sunlight to bask in. kida felt content, listening to the faint swish of leaves from the trees and the sighing of the wind through the grass. every lazy movement of her hand left droplets of water scattering across her arms to glide back into the pool or evaporate in the heat. her thoughts were as slow and syrupy as the sunlight cascading down in golden beams, and only warrior instincts instilled by a thousand fights allowed her to notice the presence of another.
lifting her head just enough to let water stream from her hair, kida turned towards the faint noise of approach, eyes sharply scanning the pond’s bank before focusing on the approaching figure, allowing her muscles to relax once more and her head to fall back upon seeing the other woman.
❝ If you swim, the water is wonderful, ❞ she threw out to the girl, a smile touching her lips just faintly enough to curve them upwards.
