Once again, The Oregon Country Fair has graced me with the best weekend of my life

Got my fortune read at Oregon Country Fair.

To be perfectly honest, the ineffability of the Oregon Country Fair makes writing about it tricky, but I’ll attempt to describe my experience as best as I can. I worked at Dan’s Original Burgers this year and I’ve gotta say, it was my privilege to contribute with such an amazing team that worked their asses off making that booth run as smoothly as it could. If any of you guys are reading this, you’re awesome! I’ve had the privilege to meet so many great people over the years living in Eugene, and every time I’d bump into someone there was so much love getting to see them at fair. The fact that it is a family event allows kids to enjoy playing with each other and get to see their parents and other adults become more childlike in many ways. There is a collective unconscious sensation that you can lower your guard, let your hair down, and just simply ‘be’ with tens of thousands of other people. To me, the sheer fact that there are a so many people that rarely get to experience those sensations throughout their life left me with an intense attitude of gratitude. To be able to contribute and experience something that holistically left me wanting to contribute more to my community and to create spaces that will allow growth, healing, and genuine expression. And the music… hole eeeee shit! Inspire Tribe, We Tribe, U R Awesome, Whiteaker Hot Club, High Step Society, Mr. Moo, Solovox, Fortune’s Folly, Alcyon Massive, Sol Seed and so much more! When I looked at all the musical performances at the stages I was so stoked to see so many artists that I’m familiar with. And each show was so unique and amazing given the set and setting of the OCF grounds and stages. I really hope to find a way to contribute some of my sound to that event in future years. The synergy between the audience and the the artists was a beautiful experience to behold. To all the performers that killed it this year, congratulations! I was thoroughly impressed with the enthusiasm and playful fun happening at each performance. I understand that OCF is also a microcosm that only happens once a year… but I can’t help but wonder how I can bring that sense of fascination and curiosity with me throughout my day to day interactions. There was a point where I put the last of my gear into the car and was standing in the parking lot (delirious from lack of sleep and dancing my ass off) and I tried to crystalize the memory and commit that sensation into an remembrance that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. So many authentic interactions, so much genuine emotion, these are the things that remind me that when people come together to create these kinds of spaces something truly magical happens. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make this Oregon Country Fair so amazing!
