it's the middle of the night and i got hungy so today we're learning how to make lazy ochazuke
- rice (ignore the 36 hours on the rice cooker)
- tea (for authenticity i used green tea packets. two because the directions said 150 ml for one packet and that is NOT enough for me)
- packet nori (aka dried seaweed. seasoned or unseasoned is fine)
- leftover fish (any works. salmon is popular for this dish. i do not have leftover salmon)
- soy sauce (optional. seasoning basically)
step 1 is to make the tea. i already did that so now i take out the tea bags. i squish them with a spoon to get all the flavor out
and then i put the used tea bags into my eye mug to make more tea. using already brewed, diluted, long since cold barley tea because i want to see what happens. it's going in the microwave bc i forgot to heat up the tea sitting in the kettle before pouring it into my mug
IMPORTANT: DO NOT STICK THE RICE PADDLE INTO THE TEA!!!! other people use that dont contaminate the rice paddle with other foods that's rude
if it does touch the tea accidentally tho that's fine just rinse the rice paddle and put it back
i haphazardly tore it apart with my hands because my leftover fish had bones in it. i did find like 3 bones in one piece but that was it. if you are using a precut salmon you will not have this problem.
now step 4. add nori/seaweed
you must crumple it up before putting it in or it will not look like fun little confetti flakes!!!! just a sad wet sheet!!!!! it is also easier to eat in crumpled up flakes. for this i used like 3 sheets of packet nori
also if you have furikake you can use that instead probably. i do not have furikake so it's juts nori for me
okay guys ready for the final step? okay so
step 5: add soy sauce (IMPORTANT!!!!) (optional)
yes it makes your ochazuke look a bit less aesthetically pleasing but i don't care i want my food to TASTE GOOD first and foremost!!!
add soy sauce to taste. i tasted it with none first, then added a splash of soy sauce and tasted it, then kept adding more until i liked the flavor. measure with your heart BUT BE CAREFUL ABOUT IT. you can always add more but you can't take out the soy sauce once it's in!!!!
and there you have it! yummy lazy ochazuke. i am satisfied.
also here's my abomination mixture tea, because i want to show off my eye mug. it is my favorite mug. the tea tastes good btw
