To know if it’s a u verb with a ru ending, just look at the vowel before it. My book said that if it ends in a, u, or o then it’s an u verb with a ru ending.
So 見る is a る verb because it’s an i before it. So if you had さわる it would be an う verb because it has an a before it. So te form would be 見て since る and then さわって for u verb.
