The basics to get you started on my original story!
One day, tears in the fabric of space-time appear on various locations of Earth, leading to a strange world —later named Replika for its ability to recreate spaces within itself. Scientists get ready to explore this new world, with different teams and different lab facilities being set up both in and out of Replika. In their quest for knowledge, some scientists will get lost, some will die, some will trade their morals in favour of scientific advance, and some will end up regretting every decision that led them there.
*Minh Thao Lý (he/him): From late teens to 60s. Explorer. Overconfident, single-minded, daring, ambitious, manipulative. Of the mindset that scientists should be willing to sacrifice anything for scientific advancement. Briefly mentors under Nathra. Hires Marcus and Ebis.
*Nathra Kebede (she/her): From 30s to 50s. Physicist and researcher. Calm, gentle, caring, smart, inquisitive. Of the mindset that the safety of scientists is more important than potential scientific advance. Briefly mentors Thao. Chanda and Marcus' superior. Will work with Nakia.
*Chanda Vaswani (she/her): From mid to late 30s. Biologist specialized in botany and mycology. Kind, cheerful, playful, curious, teasing. The kind of scientist that would (and does) die for her own research, but wouldn't dare drag anyone else down the same path. Marcus' (late) wife. Worked for Nathra.
*Marcus Ndiaye (he/him): From 30s to 40s. Analyst/data management. Quiet, serious, reserved, attentive, obliging. Chanda’s husband/widower. Worked for Nathra and Thao. Teams up with Ebis.
*Ebis Ito (she/her): From late 20s to 30s. Computer scientist, later an explorer. Lively, optimistic, driven, kind, friendly. Briefly works under Thao. Teams up with Marcus.
*Nakia Iqbal (she/he/they): From 40s to 60s. Interdisciplinary scientist back home, later an explorer. Curious, resourceful, helpful, observant, kind. Will work with Nathra.
Death, grief, isolation, mental illness, suicide attempt.
[Note: I'm a very character driven writer, so, despite what it might look like at first sight, this story is more about characters and their inner conflict and relationships with each other than it is about science. Just a heads up <3]
