Evie was not fond of her current situation, that was certain. While it was concerning that she had been kidnapped and brought here, that was not was what frustrated her most. No, what caused her the most frustration was that she knew nothing of this city. Everything felt completely new and unknown and it terrified her. Her lessons hadn’t prepared her for this. Her fieldwork hadn’t prepared her for this. She was a master assassin and yet she had no idea what to do. And she hated herself for it.
She missed Jacob, both in an emotional sense and in a logical sense. If he were here, he would have an idea, he’d improvise. He’d rush straight forward and she’d have no choice but to follow. But... that would be okay with her, that would be better than her current state of inaction.
Unsure what else to do, she decided to give herself a break and sat down on the edge of fountain in Sector 6. The fountain itself wasn’t running, for whatever reason. That hardly worried her, considering there was many more things that required her attention. The horseless carriages, for instance, she wanted to hijack one and take it apart. But without any knowledge about them, such a plan would surely fall flat.
She took a deep breath, trying to gather herself. Nearby she heard a click, and she turned to investigate the sound. There was a girl, close in age to her, holding some sort of... device. It must’ve been the source of the noise, though Evie couldn’t discern what the device was. While she hated playing the role of an innocent naive woman, it seemed that would be her only way of gathering information and that such a role was currently not far off from the truth.
She approached the girl, silently out of instinct.
“Pardon me, miss, but... what is that you have in your hands? It... ‘clicked’ a moment ago, yes?”

I think about the flow of the words first and foremost!! Like I try to think up a certain cadence for whatever Sybil is trying to say and then I’ll write sentences that match the syllable count I’m envisioning, and then from there I’ll switch out words that sound too ‘layman’-ish (sybil is a very pretentious speaker), mess with other words to get back to the right syllable count, and then I hit my head against the wall a few times and reread it to see if it still makes sense
