I can’t actually reblog @oculuslens ‘ “evidence” post so let me just jot down the problems with it:
Even given the apparent age of the screenshot, Twitter direct messages do not resemble that image, particularly the header with Sam’s handle. Messages are rounded rather than squared and “Messages from” doesn’t appear, instead just the username, handle, and icon of the sender is shown at the top. If we take the first result from Googling “fake twitter dm” we get this site which actually replicates the look of the image far more closely than Twitter itself (case in point here provided by @isnt-it-tragic). Note that we don’t see anyone’s username or icon here, just Sam’s handle.
On the note of the handle, the emoji is a bit off which could just be the machine it was taken on, but more notably is that it’s far too recent. The handle has only been in use by Sam, who frequently uses different ones, for the past three days. It could not have been in use months ago when the alleged abuse took place.
Next, we’re gonna get a little Sherlock here, but from my interactions with Sam and his interactions with my fandom on Discord and Tumblr and elsewhere, that is not how he types. Ever.
At this stage I don’t think I need to dig into the forensic details of how poor this image is, whether it’s been edited or not, but suffice it to say:
Even if we took it exactly as it appears, Lalna alleges that the abuse took place over months, yet we are given one shoddy image to confirm it entirely. A photo of an incomplete conversation that happily attempts to corroborate every statement made. This is insufficient.
