IM SORRY THIS REALLY SUCKS KAY BAI. I made it extra long as an apology for taking a break for so long even though the challenge is 500 to 800 words. @maruthor @dc-comics-imagines @dc-imagine-central @royslittleharper @cuddles-for-cassie
Presently, Antoinette was in the kitchen. Hiding. Hal had run into one of his childhood buddies while he was at the grocery store (Antoinette sent him out after discovering he didn’t have any proper food in his house) and decided to invite her over for dinner.
Antoinette had no qualm with having company over. She held dear to her heart the idea of the more the merrier. However, what was happening in their livingroom made her think twice about her welcoming philosophy.
“Hi, I’m Hannah. Hannah Ames. It’s nice to meet you,” she held out her hand.
Antoinette reciprocated the handshake. The other’s hand was soft with a reassuring firm grip.
She opened her mouth to respond when Hal cut in.
“Hannah, this is my girlfriend Antoinette,” Hal gestured to each girl respectively as he said their name.
“Hannah’s an old friend of mine,” Hal stood beside Hannah, his eyes meeting Antoinette’s. He draped his arm around Hannah’s shoulder as the two girls exchanged smiles.
Hannah was absolutely gorgeous. Golden hair flowed down to her mid back. Eyes as blue as the ocean with just a hint of green when the light caught them. A complexion that would make man and woman alike jealous. The scent that wafted off of her just as warm and soft as her facial features, not to mention she was tall.
After a few minutes of settling in, Hal invited Hannah to make herself feel at home and Antoinette excused herself to the kitchen where she was now.
“I guess we’re having baked mushroom linguine for dinner,” she said as she observed the hodge podge of ingredients Hal had brought home.
She quietly sorted through the groceries. Putting what needed to be put away in the refrigerator in the refrigerator and sorting everything else into their respective cupboards and jars. As she snapped close the flour jar, she wondered if Hannah had any dietary preferences. She needed to ask.
Antoinette moved to the center of the kitchen and sighed feigning exhaustion. She pulled her hair into a ponytail, checked over the counter tops, spun on her heels then began her walk back to the living room.
She heard laughter in the distance. It brought a smile to her face. She imagined Hal’s smile as he exchanged words with Hannah.
Antoinette’s expression fell. Hannah. She felt buds of jealousy implant themselves in her chest. Quickly she tried to shake the feeling. In an attempt to make the burning sensation dissappear, she placed her hand over her heart and rubbed circles into her chest.
Antoinette fixed a smile on her face as she swung a left into the living room.
“Oh my god. How cute!”
Hannah’s voice reached her ears first, though she wasn’t listening.
Antoinette froze where she stood. Smile dropping from her face as she took in the scene laid before her.
Hal and Hannah were cuddled up on the couch. Hal’s left arm was draped around their guest’s, right arm cradling a photo album. Hannah’s head resting against his left shoulder, cozily lounging against him.
Antoinette opened her mouth then promptly closed it. She wasn’t going to deal with this. She turned to head back to the kitchen.
In the corner of his eye, Hal spot his girlfriend or rather the back of her head.
“Hey babe,” he called out, “I was just showing Hann here some pictures of us.”
Antoinette pasted a fake smile on her face as she turn around to face them again.
“That’s cool,” she replied half-heartedly, lost for words. She knew Hal wasn’t trying to do anything inappropriate, but she couldn’t help feeling angry.
“I just came to ask if Hannah has any special requests for dinner. Like are you vegetarian or anything like that?” she asked motioning with her hands.
“No, I’m all good. Thank you again for inviting me to dinner,” Hanna replied genuinely with a brilliant smile, straightening up a little, but still leaning against Hal.
Antoinette couldn’t help but notice how radiant she was. Hannah was absolutely and effortlessly gorgeous. She could see how any guy would fall for her, in the back of her mind she included Hal.
“Alrighty, I’m gonna head back to the kitchen.” Antoinette bowed out quickly, avoiding unnecessary interaction.
As Antoinette walked away, Hannah punched Hal in the side.
“Dude! I think you should talk to her,” Hannah scolded him, her expression stern.
“What?” He replied. As perceptive as he was, some things still flew right over his head. This time it was a thing concerning his girlfriend.
“You didn’t see her face?”
Hal’s eyebrows scrunched together, confused.
“We’re really close, but generally a guy and a girl who aren’t dating don’t usually cuddle. You should go talk to her so she doesn’t think I’m trying to steal you away.”
It took a second for Hal to process Hannah’s words. He mouthed an ‘Oh’ and hung his head.
“I’ll be right back,” Hal stood up and made his way to the kitchen.
Antoinette stood over the kitchen sink, washing mushrooms in silence. She was still trying to process everything. As she roughly shut off the running water, arms wrapped around her torso and warm lips gently pressed to the side of her neck.
She breathed in Hal’s scent, his warmth encircling her.
“Sorry,” he whispered gently.
Antoinette said nothing.
“Yes I know friends shouldn’t act like that but really, it’s just platonic. Besides,” Hal spun her around, “Hannah would much rather check you out than me.”
He leaned in for a kiss. Antoinette gave him a quick forgiveness peck before pushing him away gently, facially asking for clarification.
“She’s into girls.”
“Ohhhhh.”
