We Saw You From Across the Bar and Really Dig Your Vibe
(x, x, x)
Have you seen a Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes)?
I have seen one in nature
I have seen one in captivity
I have seen a dead one/a taxidermy
I don't know if I've seen one in person
I've only seen photos, never seen in person
I've never heard of this animal

Crested Pigeon (Ocyphaps lophotes)
A widespread Australian pigeon, now thanks to agricultural practices, the Crested Pigeon can be found in most regions of Australia, save the northern-most tropical areas. They feed heavily on grains and are only one of two pigeons in Australia to have crests.
Theorized as a way to distract predators, the Crested Pigeon's wings make a startling whistle sound upon take off, which eBird describes as sounding like a wind-up toy. Typically these sorts of wing noises are thought to draw attention to birds flying away rather than those who are still on the ground, and this also gives other birds in the area a heads up that the group is flushing and taking to the air.
