Last night I had one of those dreams that could make an interesting story or game. I think it's been inspired by a lot of the monster/liminal space games that have been growing in popularity here lately.
Anywho in the dream I was in a general store and the store manager was some poor guy who was worried about getting fired because no matter what he did the till was always coming up short. He's this blonde, lanky, kind of effeminate guy who is stressed the fuck out and definitely overshares. Dream me immediately was like "I need to help this poor man" and even though I do not work there I was behind the counter giving him tips and trying to figure out what was going on.
Well, what was going on was apparently some supernatural bullshit. I wound up with one of those cat toys that's a stick with a little toy at the end of it that I was using like how Mrs Trunchable (from Matilda) was using her riding crop and maybe like how old movies show teacher nuns using rulers to grab students' attention.
There were "customers" that never had actually come inside in the first place but where leaving with their heads down and you never saw their faces. Their hair or a hoodie or something was always hanging in a curtain around their faces and sometimes you'd see two leaving at the same time and the follower would be holding onto the leader's shoulders. In the dream, I was trying to decide if I should attempt to stop them or not. I'm still not sold on that.
There is a pool in the employee only section by the way and I don't know if the mini hippo that I caught using the store as it's own personal playground lives there or not, but it was really happy when I told it to go to the pool in the back. She was completely impervious to harm except for the spot on her ear. She also love belly scratches and was adorable, I love her.
Oh and while I was wrangling mini hippo I learned that some customers that come in look human, but have sharp teeth and require reminders of what behaviors are not tolerated.
Will I ever necessarily do anything with this idea? No idea, but I definitely added it to my list of 'could be a neat idea' for stories.
