Totally. It’s sad, bc I started as a huge Moffat fan. I feel like the story he set out to tell was the River is Amy’s daughter plot, and that everything he’s done since then is grasping lesser ideas bc it’s his dream job and he doesn’t want to leave.

Mmm I see that. I used to really like Moffat too and I still think he’s doing decent-ish things (sometimes) with Sherlock. I absolutely loved his one-off episodes in RTD era DW - The Doctor Dances is one of my all time favourite episodes, but I think his style of writing worked as a contrast and as an addition to the rest of the series, rather than all the time. Then it lacks coherence.

I still think he has flashes of brilliance. I would watch an entire show about Victorian Clara, Strax, Madame Vastra and Jenny working with the Doctors in a vaguely steampunk-esque aesthetic. I think that’s terrific and I love those episodes. And personally I hated River Song and her role so while I definitely get what you mean about that being the story he wanted to tell, I’m feeling less actively negative about the over all plot these days. Just more confused and indifferent. Which is possibly worse!

Show needs a fresh perspective methinks. I enjoyed the ep but dw is far from the must-see it once was for me. There’s a recycling of ideas and kitchen sink approach to each ep which over-complicates and underwhelms.

ITA. It needs a complete rethink and reinvention. A new pair of hands at the helm. A good hard look at itself and stepping back to say, “What is the purpose of this show?” 

Last week when I got really depressed about my job, I needed a kick (and I got one) to remember why I was teaching and also that for every lesson I needed to start by asking, “What do the children need to learn in this lesson and what is the best way for this particular group to learn that?” instead of just going, “Right, what’s next to be covered on the syllabus?”

Doctor Who needs to take that step back. And Steven Moffat needs to extract his own head from his backside. But that’s another matter...

Oooh, that does look nice! & I like caramel, hmm. There's a starbucks on my way to uni so I imagine I'll have to take out a mortgage. Thanks for the suggestion (:
