Hi! I'm just starting up Mass Effect and I wanted to romance someone who'd make the game totally cool. When I asked a bunch of people about it, they told me NOT to romance Kaidan because he "ruins romance", and either romance Liara (who I haven't even met yet) or wait until the next game to romance someone else. Since I've only played the Dragon Age games, the idea of having a romance that'll stick around for three games is kind of intimidating. (1/2 or 3)

[cont] Soooo I was wondering who do you think is the best romance? Or maybe even how good all of the romances are in general? I know that Bioware has a habit of making a “preferred” romance (cough cough Alistair), and I’ve heard that Liara was the preferred romance for these games. Do you agree? Part of me wants to buy into the preferred romance so I can get the most content and reward for the romance, but at the same time I have a habit for falling in love with the adorable, bad at romance type and I’ve heard that that character would be Garrus. I’ve heard that in the next game you get a different crew and you can either remain faithful to your previous romance, cheat on them, or just not have a romance in the first one, and I’d prefer to remain faithful to whoever I choose, even if that means not romancing anyone in the first game. Any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated!

Honestly I really love Kaidan and I don’t know what your friends are talking about there. Sure, he’s not a squadmate in 2 and behavior towards Shep in his little cameo in 2 isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, but there are a reasons for that. I think he’s a star and I rant about why a bit here. His big brown puppy eyes and cute butt make me melt, and I’m unashamed.Once you’ve locked into his romance in 1, however, you’re not obligated to keep romancing him in 2 or 3 (though there are different options for doing so if you decide to reconcile with him in 3 depending on whether you romanced someone else or not in 2).Your options for romance in 1 as a femshep are Kaidan or Liara, and personally I don’t really like Liara that much. Especially in ME1, she comes across as a little bit cookie-cutter romancable lady along the same lines as Leiliana in DA:O and Merrill in DA2. Yes Liara is very much the preferred romance for the trilogy. She’s the only squadmate you can’t actually kill at any point in the series!However, if you’re into dorky bad-at-romance losers, you might well like Garrus when he becomes available to romance in 2. I like his romance, myself, but Kaidan has a special place in my heart, especially if you take certain renegade dialogue options.

Oh my goodness I thought I was the only one that shipped Cousland/Teagan I can't believe I found someone else who ships it!!! I love Teagan so much it's crazy I wanted him in Inquisition SO BAD

Ha ha nope, you’re not the only one. It’s nothing popular, but I have seen it around and when I do I’m always just like YES.

And damn, he would have looked so good in Frostbite.

Out of all of the dragon age ships, which are your top 6 favorite and why? (I know in your about me there are a few, but like I'm super curious! ^v^)

Ha ha ha well, my top three (in no particular order) are F!Cousland/Alistair, F!Hawke/Anders, and non-mage F!Trevelyan/Cullen, simply because they’re the romances I ended up with for my three ladies. I get really invested in my characters and their LIs, so those three are pretty much my ultimate ships (and when it’s specifically my own characters involved they’re like the OTPs of OTPs ha ha).

After those three would probably be F!Cousland/Nathaniel Howe. One, because Nathaniel Howe, dear god I love him. And two, come on, who can resist the whole “Your father killed my family, I killed your father, you tried to kill me, and now we’re in love” thing (especially if you add in a dash of “we were together before everything went to shit but had to part because life took us in different directions”)? I sure as hell can’t resist it ha ha.

Then… hmmm… I don’t think I really have any substantial favorites after those, so I guess I’ll just mention two more that I do enjoy and why. There’s F!Cousland/Teagan Guerrin, because I really like Teagan, and I don’t know, I just really like that ship (If it’s not obvious, I have a thing for the nobility, which might be a part of it ha ha). And there’s also Aveline/Donnic, which is just all sorts of adorable and wonderful. I really like how happy Donnic makes Aveline–she deserves that happiness, especially since she’s constantly dealing with Hawke’s shit ha ha.
