College hockey: Quinnipiac's Odeen Tufto tallies a 6-point weekend to earn top star honors

Here's your weekly look at the top stars from the past week of men's college hockey.

1.    Odeen Tufto, Quinnipiac The Chaska, Minnesota native led the Bobcats to a sweep of ECAC Hockey competition over the weekend. On Friday, the sophomore forward had a goal and an assist in the 4-2 victory over 10th ranked Clarkson. 

2.    Owen Savory, Rensselaer The freshman netminder posted a stellar performance in all three games last week for the Engineers in ECAC Hockey action. The Guelph, Ontario native made 43 saves in a scoreless tie against rival Union in the Mayor’s Cup on Tuesday in the first shutout of his career. 

3.    Anthony Nellis, Lake Superior State The Breakeyville, Quebec native had a five-point weekend in a sweep of Ferris State in WCHA weekend action. He scored two goals and had an assist in Friday’s 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs.

Tufto, Bongiovanni, Savory Named to Leagues Weekly Honor Roll

ALBANY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey has announced its men’s weekly awards for the week ending February 3, 2019, and players from Quinnipiac and RPI have been honored.

Odeen Tufto (Quinnipiac) has been named Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the nation in scoring this weekend with six points (2G, 4A).

Quinnipiac’s Wyatt Bongiovanni led all league freshman in scoring this weekend, notching a pair of goals and an assist to earn Rookie of the Week honors. 

Owen Savory (RPI) had another outstanding week in net, leading the nation with 111 saves over the Engineers three games.

Mercyhurst's Derek Barach earns NCAA men's hockey top star of the week

Here are the NCAA Division I men's hockey three stars for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

1 – Derek Barach, Mercyhurst

The senior captain was unstoppable in leading the Lakers to a weekend sweep at Bentley in Atlantic Hockey action. The Glenmont, New York native had four points on three goals and an assist in Friday’s 5-3 victory.

2 – Odeen Tufto, Quinnipiac

The Chaska, Minnesota native helped improve the Bobcats win streak to six games with a home-and-home sweep of Princeton in ECAC Hockey play. On Friday, he had a goal and an assist as Quinnipiac shut out the Tigers, 3-0. On Saturday in New Jersey, Tufto picked up where he left off with four assists in the 6-3 win. 

3 – Joseph Woll, Boston College

The junior netminder had a banner weekend in goal against Commonwealth Avenue rival Boston College. On Friday, the Dardenne Prairie, Missouri native allowed only one goal, while making 38 saves in the 4-1 victory.

Tufto, de Jong, Hanson Earn Men's Weekly Awards

ALBANY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey has released the men’s weekly honor roll for the week ending November 25, 2018, and players from Quinnipiac and Union have been recognized.

Odeen Tufto continued his hot start to the season this past weekend, moving into a tie for the league lead in points with 17. The sophomore had a five point night in Quinnipiac’s 7-2 win over Maine on Friday, recording his first career hat and adding a pair of assists.

Ethan de Jong also played a big role in Quinnipiac’s two wins over Maine, earning rookie of the week honors after a three point weekend (2G, 1A). The North Vancouver native had a positive impact on the ice all weekend, posting a +6 plus/minus rating, which topped the nation.

Darion Hanson has become a regular face to the weekly honor roll, earning goalie of the week honors for the third time in 2018. The sophomore was named MVP of the Friendship Four Tournament after allowing just two goals and leading Union to the tournament championship.
