Whenever S and I are strolling down Odengatan, a main street in Stockholm’s Vasastan district known for its great shops, bars, and cafes, we can’t help but stop into Tehuset (The Tea House in English)… not even to necessarily buy anything (because I think we’ve bought as much as we can already from this shop) but simply to just enjoy its eye candy! With locations around the city, Tehuset originates from the 1930s and today sells specialized tea, coffee, and beautiful home goods, including luxury hand soaps and lotions, kitchen tools, and stationary.
The shop does a great job of changing up much of its merchandise based on the season, including kitchen tableware, tea sets, gifts, and home decor. I went a little nuts last winter and purchased all of my whimsical Christmas ornaments here, as well as quintessential Swedish Christmas decor that always looks antique-y and hand-made. I died for their spring-themed goods this year, and now that autumn is approaching, I can’t wait to see what cozy goodies lay in store!
There seems to be a lifestyle revolving around tea that is much more prevalent in Europe than in the U.S. While I have yet to purchase an official tea set, Tehuset’s tea sets inspire me to suddenly want to become a tea connoisseur!
I quickly get sucked into the design and detail of each one, standing there staring at them all (beginning to sweat and slightly stress because when here, I suddenly feel as if I need to revolve my life around tea to make it better) and I wonder… which set is me? (Followed by a mini existential crisis on who I actually am.)
But I digress!
I particularly love Marimekko‘s designs for their bright, poppy colors and designs, sure to make any kitchen come to life!
Tehuset is not only a shop to indulge in for yourself (I buy my lavendar hand soaps here for my bathroom- they bring me such joy!), but it is a great spot to buy gifts for others, especially if you are in the city and not quite sure where to stop or what to get to take home for a loved one. A delicious tea, a unique coffee blend, or a charming item of the home can’t go wrong. I’ve only received positive feedback, myself! As well, whoever comes to visit me goes nuts when taken here for a personal visit. A real shopping treat in town!
