In pre-Christian times, this was a well-known place of sacrifice to the Norse god Odin. The place was then called Odensharg (Odin-hearg). Harg Meant a place of sacrifice. About 1000 AD the first christians in Swedeb built a church on the site. The church Odensala (Odins-hall) was as late in the 18th century named Odinsharg. The name of the church still honors the name of Odin to this day.
