what do you think of shubman being given the odi captaincy? I mean, I don't exactly oppose the decision because the selectors' reasoning that roko won't be around forever, so it would be an easier transition to break in a new captain while those two are still around, also makes sense. but speaking purely from a place of nostalgia, we won two icc trophies under rohit in a span of a year and a half and unlike tests, he's still in good form in odis. the fact that he's removed as captain means that the bcci will decide his and virat's places in the 2027 wc squad based purely on performance, and if they don't deem them up to the mark they won't play. :((( i'm happy for gill truly but honestly it will be such a shame if these two don't get a farewell wc :((((
hmmm i understand why the decision had to be made. we're about 2 years since the 2023 wc (and hence halfway through the cycle till the next world cup) - it is truly a shame that we only play about 20 odis in the coming 2 years now (which is already an exaggerated number imo, it might be fewer than that in reality) - so i can see why the bcci decided to make this call before the australian series (esp given the conditions there vs where the 2027 world cup will be held, perhaps they want to see shubman's strategic skills?)

and i've tried to think this through very objectively too. but i do think the bcci is truly going overboard. i can understand their qualms with rohit sharma in tests (the new zealand whitewash where it was very easy for gg and co to make him be the scapegoat, same with bgt) is what drove him to an abrupt retirement, and the same with virat wrt his form in tests over the last few years...
but odis?
they both rule that format. are you seriously telling me the man who was the highest scorer and the player of the tournament in the 2023 world cup now has to prove himself to play odis? the man with the most ODI centuries, period???? the man, who just in 2025 alone, was one of the highest scorers in champions trophy too? rohit sharma as well, under whose captaincy we have only lost one odi match in icc tournaments????
i really cannot believe that t20 was the format where they got to go out on their own terms man... i really thought virat would have it his way with tests at least, getting a proper farewell, and rohit, for the way he has led the team in his time, would get the deserving farewell in white-ball cricket.
i don't know what the general consensus is regarding gautam gambhir's tenure as coach but i have been so upset since he made it to our management. ruining every good thing one by one. r ashwin retiring from test cricket mid-bgt should've been a sign for us all...
