A Rant About Odin: AKA Em’s reading Norse Mythology

I’m sorry but I have a hard time reconciling the dorky king who disguises himself as Definitely NOT Odin to learn new things and steal mead from Giants and make children kings with the guy who killed, banished, chained or rode, and I mean literally rode because one of them is a horse, his niece and nephews/granddaughter and grandsons (dependent on whether your reading older sources that depict Loki as Odin’s brother or newer sources that say he’s his son.) Because Dorky King Odin has DEFINITELY heard of self-fulfilling prophecies because he’s the fucking god of knowledge so it stands to reason that he’d go ‘hmm maybe the reason Fenrir kills me is because I lock him up for eternity maybe I shouldn’t do that.’ But he doesn’t? And another thing! Why the fuck would you punish someone by killing their entire family? Yeah I guess that’s a norse thing but seriously Odin, you’re the god of knowledge you should know that by killing Vali and Narvi and chaining Loki for thousands of years WITH HIS CHILDREN’S INTESTINES would make him pissed enough to start Ragnarok. And has anyone noticed that nowhere does it explicitly say (at least in the sources I have read) that Loki knew Mistletoe would kill Baldr? I mean yeah it’s heavily implied but like it never says he knows, so Odin is potentially murdering his nephews for a probably-less-than-honest-because-it’s-Loki mistake. And I’m sorry but Odin, even if your nephew/grandson is a horse why the fuck are you riding him that’s just weird. Conclusion: Ragnarok is Odin’s fault because if he had just taken a second to think Loki and Fenrir would have no reason to end the world. Go back to questing for knowledge and leave Frigg to run Asgard.
