Well, now that we're stuck with the Leave decision (52% of a 72% turnout, that, swhat, about 37% of the actual electorate?) let's see what's likely to happen in the coming months/few years.
Battling brownshirts on the barricades? Um, no. THat'd be if UKIP/BF/EDL were in government.
Immigration? There'll be more illegals, not less, as the EU will have no cause to control the flow of migrants *out* of their territory and on to Britain.
Security? Not much difference, I suspect. We're still in NATO, and the various police and security services around the world have always worked together in general anyway.
Mostly what will happen is the rollback of a lot of workers' rights, and large price increases (up to a third) on European goods and services, increases in stealth taxes, and decreases in services and prodct qualit - i.e. lots more holes in roads. Fewer foreign holidays, much more glumness...
And then who knows what if scotland secedes to join the EU. (Not least since Wee Jimmy Krankie also wants Scotland out of NATO, IIRC, and the economic repercussions for both Scotland and England will be wildly unpredictable unless all that North Sea oil somehow magically grows back)
There's probably a 10-20% chance of the EU breaking up over the following decade, I suspect, pulling the number purely out of my arse as a total guess.
So what do we do? Try to live our lives and work to protects workers' rights, maintain the progress made over the past few decades in society, and cheat the money so we have some left at the end of the day. And stock up on box sets to take our minds off how crumbling, grey, and joyless everything's going to be for a long time to come.
So, I've had enough of it for today - I have some proposals to send off to publishers and production departments, cos now would be a better time than ever to actually have something as an income.
