Headcanon:
Vulcans did not, prior to the Federation, name their starships. It is illogical to invest an inanimate piece of equipment with the trappings of personhood.
By the time of TOS, however, Vulcans had adopted the custom from Humans. "That which is aesthetically pleasing," said the then-current prefect of the Offworld Service, "posesses its own logic."
Vulcan ships are only named after virtues, ideas, places, or mythological figures. To name a ship after a real person is deeply inappropriate. For the living, it is a gross violation of their privacy. And the dead cannot consent.
