i just want to make myself very clear when i say that this blog is for everyone. i know there’s been discourse about dark academia being classist and racist, and in a lot of media we consume, it definitely is, but this blog is not.

people of color and lower/middle class people are welcome here. you don’t need to be at a prestigious ivy league school and only wear fancy clothes to fit this aesthetic. it’s your aesthetic too and anyone who says you can’t be a part of dark academia because you’re a person of color or you’re not well off is an ignorant liar.

as long as you’re thoughtfully examining literature/any other subject and like autumn, you fit this aesthetic. you can be in an overcrowded high school that doesn’t have enough funds and still be DA. you know how i know this? i go to a school like that. at my school, people sit on the floor at lunch because we don’t have enough room to fit everyone. the majority of students are children of immigrants. i still live the DA lifestyle with what i’ve got.

i can read keats in the library, i make nice notes, now that autumn is here i’m wearing sweaters and drinking coffee and listen to tchaikovsky. and you can too, anyone can

i just wanted to make sure y’all know that this blog doesn’t like how classist and racist some aspects of DA can be, and even though i blog about books like The Secret History and Maurice, i actively acknowledge that the first is satirical and a warning, and Maurice actively warns against the ideas of white superiority and strict social classes
