Hi! With the first check in comming up, I have a question. How detailed should our summaries be? Should I write an overview of the entire story -including plot twists, the ending, etc- or should I just write what the story is about, like I would in Ao3? Thanks in advance!
Good question! I’m posting this because it’s something I think everyone could benefit from. I hope that’s okay.
We are just looking for a summary like what you would provide on AO3. Mostly, this is to help us with beta assignments, placing cheerleaders and aiding artists (when we get to that point) with their selections. We don’t need to know every plot twist. We don’t even want to know every plot twist! Because, hey! We’re readers too, right?!
So, in short, 1-3 lines would probably be ideal. If there are any things you would tag for that you think should be warned about to potential beta readers and cheerleaders, it would probably be best to include that as well.
Thank you!

Q&A
Hey guys! We’ve had several people ask about posting and what exactly will be expected of authors towards the end of the OFBB. This is a TENTATIVE plan for posting!
- The first day of posting will be for all of the one-shots (if there are any).
- Multichapter fics will be sorted into 7 groups - with each group posting on their assigned day (Sunday through Saturday), followed by weekly updates on those set days. Authors also have the option of just posting the fic in its entirety on their first posting day if they would prefer to do so.
- Authors who choose to post chapters weekly will continue to do so until such time as the story is posted in its entirety, regardless of length.
- Stories will be posted on AO3 as an OFBB collection. We will be blogging links to the stories here as well and authors are welcome to post on additional sites of their choosing once posting begins. Exceptions for housing the fics on AO3 will be made for authors who do not have an AO3 account or do not want their story housed there.
If you have any more questions about posting please let us know! We will be updating this post with any questions and their answers.
hi, I hope that I'm not too late for this but in the sign up form it says ' name'... does that mean like the username for example in ao3 or..? (sorry, I'm just a bit confused..:')
Hi! We’re actually looking for a first name. But if you’d rather go by your Tumblr/AO3 name then that’s fine!
Where do we submit story summaries?
It is in the sign-up form for authors, but was not a required component (we know some people are still settling on a plot). If you’ve already signed up and want to let us know your summary now, you can e-mail [email protected].
We’ll have more information and updates posted on olicityficbang as we progress through the challenge. Let us know if you have more questions!
It says no non-dc crossovers, so would a fic loosely based on a movie or book count as a crossover? Or does a crossover strictly mean there are characters from non-dc fandoms involved?
Hi there! No, fics based off of books or movies are not considered crossovers, and will be accepted for the OFBB. Any stories containing characters from outside of the DC Universe, however, will not be accepted, as they are considered crossovers. Hope this helps!
I'm considering signing up as a beta reader, but your guidelines don't delineate what you expect from the "primary" and "secondary" betas listed on the form. Is it a matter of chronological order or different levels / areas of editing services to be provided?
Hi! It’s actually a bit of both. We’ll be offering betas several options - a primary beta will be expected to be the main beta for an author. If you sign up as a secondary beta, you wouldn’t be assigned to an author unless they’re in need of a backup. We’re also asking betas for their strengths. So if you’re strengths lie with grammar, we’ll pair you with an author, along with a second beta for characterization, plot, etc. Anyone who signs up as a beta will receive a Beta Info sheet in an email where we’ll get this type of info from you, as a beta, and that will help us when the time comes to pair authors and betas.
Hope this helps!
