the 1 deserves better
i absolutely agree. it's one of my top 5 favorite songs on folklore and i think it's one of taylor's best openers both musically and lyrically. it does a great job of setting the tone for the album and there's bits and pieces of it that i think apply to different characters from the other songs.

Controversial opinion: I HATED normal people. It was so hard to get through but I waited so long for it to come in from the library so I forced myself to finish it. Absolutely hated it and will never read anything by the author again.
Adfsghgs the wait was so long at my local library that I had my grandma check it out at home and send it to me so I relate to that hardcore.
The thing with normal people that kind of irked me was that there were no quotation marks. Like I know that’s a stylistic choice but I really really really hated that there was nothing breaking up the page. I overall think it had a good message and was very introspective but there were times that I was so irritated with the characters.
