“Darling heart, I have told you the story of The Beauty and The Beast, right? Everyone thought Belle was odd, and she was the heroine. Normal is boring, and I love my darling daughter, especially because she’s a little bit odd, like her mother was,” she said, smiling at her little girl, hoping to make her feel better. She was a beautiful one and Olivia would say that she was unlike any child that she had ever known, but she couldn’t. Calliope reminded her of herself, only happier.

As exhausted she may be, after yet another successful VFD mission, upon arriving home, the first thing Olivia did was seek out her daughter. It was a search that did not last long, for she soon found the girl in the library. Upon seeing her child, a warm smile broke out across the volunteer's face. "Calliope. Your father and I have just returned. I hope everything was alright while we were away." She said, walking over before pulling her daughter into a tender embrace.

Calliope . 

     The child’s response amuses him and he can’t help the small smile of pride that takes over his lips. He is aware that she has been picking out the colorful sugary bits, leaving the grain-oats behind ---stating that this was for monster-fighting purposes and not for consumption was clever. “Now, are you attempting to befriend them or to induce a sugar rush and subsequent sugar crash to weaken them before you attack them by surprise?”

Olivia reached into her handbag and pulled out her spyglass, fiddling with the dial until it became something of a flashlight. “Here you are, darling. You know, I wish I had a flashlight that good when I was a child, would have made reading after bedtime so much easier. Not that I read after my bedtime. That would be a bad example to set for you, wouldn’t it?” she asked with a small chuckle.

There was something so sweet that Calliope managed to keep the secret. She had baked Olivia a cake, and bought her a poetry book with her savings. Calliope wanted her mother to have the best birthday possible.

Olivia entered the living room to find her daughter sitting on the sofa. “Hello darling, how are you?” she asked, going to sit beside her, pulling Calliope into her arms.

Calliope moved her book down from in front of her face, eyebrow raised as she glanced across at the Baudelaire sibling. She brunette was a tad younger then the inventor, but it felt like they had known eachother forever and Calliope really enjoyed her company. The poetry book now laid upon her lap as she listened with curious ears.

“Is this because you like ( like ) Quigley or Duncan?”

her face had turned into the sort of shade that a ripe tomato possessed . she was not about to admit which of the quagmire triplets she held a liking to . “ what makes you think that , calliope ? my heart may burn , but it may not be because of being in love with someone . at least , not at this time . ”
