She knew who it was-no, to say she knew would be a stretch. It was only the barest imprint of a memory, and not even a strong one at that. But the beast, snout covered in blood and gore and with the thick tang of metal coating her tongue- -recognition [ flickered ] for the barest moment within aged eyes, at the face through the glass. A gust of wind sprang from flared nostrils, and the mighty head tipped back, allowing the goat to slide down her cavernous maw.
Within the observation deck, a man watched the guest, concern etched across his visage.
“You don’t have to stay, if you don’t want to.”
