Luna had just left for class and Vex was hanging out underneath one of the many trees on campus. He wasn’t really one for the outdoors, not since he had had to leave his family home, but anywhere was better then that damn house of his. That was his own personal hell. He had spent the 10 years between then and coming to Brakebills learning how to manipulate people into doing what he wanted, which he now had to hide, but now he had to train in reading people’s minds, which was apparently something that came naturally to “psychics,” which was not only he something being called, but something that he was not any good at. Or at least he wasn’t.
Luna had convinced him that it might just come in handy, and also probably necessary for him to pass his classes, so he was practising on people out on the grounds. It was easier then he expected. A good number of people had wards up to protect just such invasive manoeuvres, but he could tell someone had been partying a little too hard last night, which generally weakened those defences. Vex smiled to himself. ‘Well someone likes to have fun,’ he thought to himself.
“Oy, ‘air cut,” he shouted. “Yeah first year I’m talking to you.” He waved Mason over. “Sounds like you ‘ad quite a bit of fun last night - that’s rare around ‘ere unfortunately.”
