The first rule of getting people to smile was getting to know them. Know their likes and dislikes to make sure you didn’t accidentally bring up a topic they were bothered by or perhaps said something inconsiderate. This was an infallible logic Elmer had lived by for the past 300 years, one that had brought him much unpopularity upon discovery, but nevertheless one he still pertained to. And thus, he had only just finished rummaging through his new room when the door was breached by a pretty young girl, most likely in her mid teens. She carried herself with a refinement that reminded Elmer of an old friend, but her poise was the only thing she had in common with the man. Even he was capable of telling that much from a single glance.
“ Miss Riko, right? ”
Although his Japanese was very decent, he still carried an accent that revealed him as a foreigner, should his looks not already tell that much. It wasn’t much he had time to figure out but her name, but he had laid eyes on a few musical scores in her belongings, which made him very curious. However, experience told him that it was bad to tell others that he had been going through their stuff without permission.
“ It’s nice to meet you. I’m Elmer and I’ll be in your care from now on. ”
