Determine module power based on user's daily electricity consumption.
Off grid solar power system available power = module power × average solar power hours × solar controller efficiency × battery efficiency. Some off grid users haven't installed meters and aren't entirely clear about their electricity usage. Some off grid solar power system is newly built, so it's necessary to estimate daily electricity consumption. For loads like light bulbs, fans, and hair dryers, electricity consumption = power × time. However, loads like air conditioners and refrigerators operate intermittently, and loads like televisions, computers, and stereos rarely operate at full power, therefore, comprehensive considerations are needed when calculating electricity consumption.
Determine battery capacity based on user's evening electricity consumption or expected standby time.
The battery's task is to ensure normal power supply to the system load when solar radiation is insufficient. For critical loads, the system should be able to operate normally for several days, taking into account consecutive cloudy or rainy days. The installation location of the solar power system must also be considered. If in a remote area, the battery capacity needs to be designed to be larger because it takes a long time for maintenance personnel to reach the site.
