Little known fact — there have been #Syrian / #Lebanese events held at @bam_brooklyn venues since as early as 1910. 🎙 What we are doing with #LittleSyria is a celebration of past achievements AND future possibilities for our beloved community. 🤲🏼 Introducing @ronniemalley & @thanksjoey to one another years ago & creating the space / opportunities necessary for us to chip away at this project together over the last several years (from 3 different cities mind you) has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. 🙏🏼 With them holding it down for me musically, and my brother @narcynarce doing an incredible job with the visual projections from his corner of the world — taking the research / images / ideas I had & working with the ever-talented @0zaidi to exceed expectations — I was confident that we could put on a helluva show. ✨ Narcy also introduced me to @randaeidstylist, who did such a brilliant job as costume designer pulling all our looks together & being a supportive, caring role throughout the process. When I told her I was a fan of @zaidfarouki she said “why don’t you get him to design the #Offendum suit?” 💡 Thankfully he agreed & I couldn’t be more grateful for his artistry — not just with my outfit, but Ronnie’s galabeya & the stunning dress worn by our featured guest, the incomparable vocalist @nanoraies. ✨ I also owe a debt of gratitude to my brother @seifaldin who’s been a sounding board throughout the last several months as I’ve been working on this project … Between the madness of parenting during a global pandemic, and the struggles of moving across the country last year while living on a 100% independent artist’s budget, it felt a little crazy trying to take this show on in this way — but we did it. 🙏🏼 We did it 3 nights in a row, creating / growing community in the way I’d always dreamed of seeing as a child.
