World's cutest door greeter, at Office Nomads, insisting on play time prior to meeting time. Very wise.
Jacob and Quang at the SCSA/City of Seattle brainstorming session at Office Nomads.
Amazing things happen when coworking spaces get together (in this moment, Office Nomads, The Mill, Coworking Eastlake, and Collective Self BBQ'ing together). For example, 1) free homemade popsicles (thanks PopCycles), 2) free sushi (thanks Jimmy), 3) free homemade beer (thanks Chelsea), 4) new friends, and 5) wondering if Ryan can get that whole steak in his mouth. Not necessarily in that order.
Guess where I went today?!

Thanks Susan! Office Nomad's Susan gave me a tour of their place and a ton of amazing advice about creating welcoming coworking spaces this morning. Love their member board. Love that they've knocked walls down to make more open space. Love the relaxed, homey vibe and the volume of their space: an energetic quiet, not a library quiet. Love Nadine, their member checkin iPad thingy that Jacob built. Love their comfy couches and practical kitchen. Mostly, I just love seeing them thrive together.
Love what Susan said about community: "It just takes time. You can decorate the crap out of something: that doesn't make it homey and lived in. Community does. There's no rushing it. Community takes time."
One of the perks of having a 5-year-old coworking space: dogs who grew up in the space. Beautiful Buckley is the most laid back dude I've met in a long time. Like a zen garden with feet. He even came with me to make tea and then showed me the way back to the couch, sensing I was a newby who might lose her way. He oozes the Office Nomad vibe. So does lovely Susan. Thanks for showing me around guys!
P.S. Grady dog at Collective Self, being 11, says that getting up to help get tea and show people around is really a younger dog's game. Grady prefers working as footrest/footwarmer/hug giver. Paradoxically, he'll get up to chase tennis balls in the backyard until your arm falls off.
