How to Use Scan and Capture Feature
Remote Scanning and Capture are an advanced feature that gives the ability to capture and scan files and folders that are located on a remote computer. They can be used to Office Workflow that may cause trouble to the system running Windows.
Remote Scanning and Capture are one of the newer features that are available to Vista users. It is more of a "feature" than a real 'feature'. There are certain things that you must be aware of before you use this feature.
* Before you can use the Capture feature you must have already installed the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT). The Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) are required to allow you to use remote scanning and capture.
* You must use the USB port on your computer if you want to use the remote scanning and capture feature. This is a personal choice that you must make. It does not affect the capabilities of the feature, but it does make it easier to access if you do need to use the feature.
* When you choose a secure server for your scan, make sure you select "secure". This is a very important step because it will prevent others from seeing the data captured. This is a feature that works differently than regular scanning.
* In order to be able to use the Capture feature you must have access to your computer's registry and temporary files. * You can set these up using various different methods. Some require more expertise than others.
* Keep in mind that most scanners do not scan your entire hard drive. They only look inside the drive that the scanner is on. So, if you scan a drive for an hour, the scan will return just a portion of the total drive.
* You can scan a drive by simply dragging and dropping the scan into a temp folder. This will work if you want to see the report you get back from the scan. If you do not want to use the temp folder and would rather go directly to the scanned drive, you can choose to use the toolbar to do so.
* For Vista users, the best place to use remote scanning and capture is on the desktop of your PC. If you want to use it at your office or home computer, you may find that you get better results with the help of Outlook Express.
* Make sure that you follow the transport rules when trying to connect to the network from another computer. Some networks will only allow a certain percentage of the connection as being on the network. This is because the network might be under attack.
* If you have a slower transfer rate when using a scanning program, make sure you use it with the appropriate types of network. * If you need to scan multiple drives at the same time, make sure that the drives are all the same size. That way you can reduce the time it takes to scan a drive that is a lot larger than another.
* If you are using the Capture feature and the scan takes a long time, you should consider changing the settings that the Scan registry tool uses to scan the drives. Use the Registry Cleaner application to clean up all the files that it has stored on the drive. These can be files that are not needed, or even items that were deleted during the scan.
