i got a dr seuss book about bugs as a kid and that’s probably what started my insect interest because there were so many cool facts.
did you know that some species of bumblebee can fly higher than mt Everest! and ants can lift over 10 times their body weight!
Butterflies taste stuff with their feet (also you can generally tell the difference between a butterfly and a moth by how they rest, moths will rest with their wings out flat while butterflies have their wings held together). there are also 22000 species of moth in australia!! moths don’t have noses.
Slaters, the little isopods that curl in a ball (aka my childhood best friends), lay their eggs in a pouch on their body and the baby slaters will stay there for a bit after hatching.
my favourite is that many moth and butterfly species migrate. I really want to go to mexico one day to see the monarch butterfly migration, it’s supposed to be amazing.
