Nieuw Type
This is just the beginning.
Below are more photos of specimens and the story!
It started with this. Nobel light 8 point, ordered from Holland, forgetting that the type is 1,3mm taller than it is in Belgium.
16 kilos. So this got me so excited about printing again, that i ended up finding this new press :
The rollers had to be replaced, I am still waiting for them to arrive so no press specific post. (ADANA Quarto QH in case you wondered). But with that press, was other type: Vendôme, Vendôme Italic & Garamond Italic. So I made proofs of all these types:
I was pretty happy. But half the type was Belgian half Dutch. I really like the nobel so I did research into the designer, Sjoerd de Roos, and found out about another typeface he made : Libra
It looks 300% more rustiek than any other type out there, so I posted a “looking for” ad. I was looking for Belgian height, but as luck would have it, the same fellow that sent me the Nobel had this in stock in 10 and 8 point.
The 10 point was in a nice block. The 8 point looked like this:
a couple of days later, it looked like this :
Looks a little loose as a few jobs are currently set.
In a gothic folly, I also got this :
You never know when you’ll need to reprint the bible.
I am replacing al the Belgian/French height type with Dutch height so I don’t have to recalibrate the press.
Needless to say, the Libra is great, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier. So now in 2020 the drukkerij has it’s official type, that fits well, is ledgible & downright rustiek.
