Just found out via my mother, who works with hiv positive folks, that the current shitshow of an administration is trying to appropriate federal funding from programs like hers to fund the child separations. I am so far beyond livid that i've wrapped back around to calm. Besides doing what I can with calls and emails and suchlike, would you have any ideas on which god(s) i could call on for help?

aunty, i know you've talked before about getting migraines. what do you do to deal with them besides excedrin and dark rooms and coldpacks? hoping your day's going better than mine <3

Excedrin doesn’t do shit for me. For mine, it’s ibuprofen, dark quiet rooms, and coldpacks. 

That’s pretty much it, I’m afraid. 

Feverfew does help reduce their occurrence and severity. When I was 10-16 and getting them regularly, it helped a lot. I don’t get them often anymore, thank fuck. Normally just when the corn starts blooming and my sinuses go haywire. 

But if one shows up, it’s ibuprofen, dark quiet rooms, and coldpacks.

Not only on the list, but on the special “first dog” list!

I don’t have any experience at all with AKC greyhounds, but I’ve met a few retired racers and looked extensively into them as a first dog. Typically what you get is a large couch potato who likes to run laps once a day and doesn’t like to be left alone. Of course there are always individuals, but the racing lifestyle produces dogs who have no experience with solitude but do have plenty of experience in being bored.

Looks-wise, they’re not my favorite: thin coat and odd proportions imho. But retired racers are one of the few lines with such aggressive selection for healthy traits--you can’t race a dog who grew too fast and developed joint issues. Or one with neuroses. Or one with hip dysplasia. So they’re very, very healthy dogs, and they’re very mentally well balanced and those are both huge pluses.
