A weapon was not permitted to have possessions and yet the soldier was sure that this man, the man from the bridge, belonged to him. After Project Insight had fallen, after he had dove into the Potomac to fish out the strange blonde, the soldier had seated himself on the banks of the Potomac, staring between the falling debris and the blue-clad man unconscious next to him. An hour of sitting only ended with the asset even more confused. He could not leave the blonde man- Steve, why did he know that name?- alone. Someone would attempt to take him away. The soldier’s only option was to bring the blonde with him. Without issue, he lifted the other and carried him toward the nearest HYDRA base. His mission had failed and he needed to report back.
Breaking into the base was not difficult even with a passenger. The agents inside had barricaded the door and had their guns drawn. His own weapon was out as well and he knew he could eliminate ever single one of the agents before they could fire against him. However, he was not to attack HYDRA. Such behavior would be severely punished. Instead, he gently set the bridge-man down, crouching over him as dead eyes stared back at the agents. “He is mine.”
