In a sense Madison no longer fears death because she knows what comes after, first the darkness and then the numbness as she regains all her sensations little by little slowly over the next few weeks. She does fear something might be behind the darkness if she ever were to die and stay dead. She’s afraid the darkness might just be a waiting period.
She regrets not taking a chance and telling Zoe what her true feelings were for her when she had the chance. Instead of risking it she decided she wasn’t good enough and, in order to thank Zoe for killing her last remaining rapist, she brought Kyle back. Madison thought Zoe deserved someone to make her happy and she didn’t feel adequate enough to do it herself. When faced with the chance of being truly happy or possibly being rejected and ending up heartbroken she picked the easier option.
