Happy birthday!

@ofsappho's birthday is today, and I just want to write a little something to celebrate them.

The obvious is: they're a FANTASTIC writer, and if you know them, that's probably how, through their stories. They're also a gorgeous and talented make-up artist, a scholar of ancient Greek myth, and a practicing Hellenic polytheist.

We met in each other's comment sections, and a friendly discourse about character motivation, worldbuilding, and the Sandman gradually moved to dms. And then suddenly we were friends, and I remembered it was actually possible for this old hermit to MAKE new friends. So, if we're fan-fic-friends, you should know it started there, with @ofsappho being kind and making me feel welcome just by being their enthusiastic self.

Today is gonna be (and already has been) another rough day for my friend. The details aren't mine to share, but the big beats are on their own page (recent homelessness, mental health struggles, physical health issues, recent hospitalization, an inevitable surgery lurking in the future...).

Another problem is that @ofsappho just really needs to know they're appreciated right now, and for a bevvy of reasons, they're struggling to feel/see/hear/receive what they need.

So, if you could all join me in wishing this fantastic friend a happy birthday, that would wonderful!

@ennas-aesthetic tagged me in the Last Line game so I’m going off what they put cause I haven’t seen it go around! The rules are I have to post the last lines of my current WIP. So here’s a couple paragraphs for the chapter I’m working on!

Dream hated him. Hated that the dog ignored him and responded only to me, hated that this new creation looked like him (though I secretly think he was pleased), hated that Eres was a thing he couldn’t control. Like a cat and a dog staring each other down, both sets of twin eyes looked at the other in displeasure, fighting for my affection. It would have been funny if I wasn’t still kind of freaked out about having created at all and waiting any second for Dream to reabsorb the shadow dog. Then there was the downside to Eres being attached to me. When I would come back to the Waking world, still tucked away in Hob’s guest room that had become as much a home as I could make it, Eres decided he wasn’t content being away from me for hours on end. I’d been getting ready for the day, rifling through my closet when I heard Hob shouting in the living room in surprise along with heavy thuds and a quieter crash. “Uh, Dahlia! Why is there a large dog in the house?”

And that’s all! I don’t know as many people so I tagging the one’s I know write! @cuckoo-on-a-string, @peachesofteal, and @ofsappho! No pressure to do it!

You know you have one of those special kinds of friendships when they message you at midnight with a TikTok link, announcing:

"You're tetrodotoxin."

And then five minutes later message again to say,

"ACTUALLY you're atropa belladonna."
