Piñon harvest near Toquima cave in Toiyabe National Forest, central Nevada. This cave had ancient petroglyphs from ancestors of the Shoshone natives that called this place home. I read coyote stories of this land after I harvested the nuts, and many of them include the Piñon pine tree as a crux of a problem or a resolution. Those good old coyote stories. There are even explanations in the stories for why they are short trees. I harvested pine nuts last year and really didn't think I'd make it this year after also not making wild rice harvest. Grateful for the connection to this plant and a small act of gathering this food. #wildfoods #wildfoodlove #pinenuts #piñon #pine #coyotestories #nevada #wander #herbalism #foraging #forage #ofsedgeandsalt (at Toiyabe National Forest)
