Of course, Riley worried about him. Especially when he turned up randomly with some kind of injury or any sign of being hurt. She would fuss over him like a mother hen and not let him get any words in as she bombarded him with questions that he never got to answer. But he would wait patiently and then answer, only pausing so she could ask more questions, and answering those as well.

He tried not to smile at her words, at the way she tilted his chin so she could look at his eye and the bruise forming on his cheek, the way her eyebrows scrunched together. It was all something he had seen before but he always seemed so fond of. Unlike other times, more questions didn’t come. Just ‘who did this?’ and that was it. Ryder couldn’t help but smile as he looked down at her.

“No one. It doesn’t matter, I’m fine-”

Eyebrows scrunching together at the look he received, the blonde merely chuckled. It was clear that she did not believe him. Later she would grill him or find another way to force him to tell her. But it wasn’t the time for that.

“Hey,” he said gently and tilted her chin up so she would look at him. “Riles, I’m fine.”

Anger issues seemed to run in the Dunbar family. Both Ryder and his older brother Liam had issues and he had heard his mother whispering on the phone about some of his other relatives who seemed to have the same problem. It didn't matter if they were distant or barley even related- What mattered was the fact that uncontrollable anger was a thing with his family. A thing which, surprisingly, Ryder managed to control pretty well for years around certain people. There were only a few mishaps at school and barely any outside of school. Therapy seemed to be a big part of him getting better. But then he got older, he stopped going to therapy, and he started to get his old anger back. He was still nice and still the same old Ryder. Just... Not as patient and a bit more aggressive. Maybe he should have taken medicine like his brother had but he had done good when he was young and now he was too old and too stubborn to start. So, everyone just had to deal with the young Dunbar the way he was. Which proved to be a rather bad idea one day when he was out with Riley. Not only Riley but some of her friends, maybe even a few family members! The man wasn't sure what happened or why he was so angry but all he knew was that his brain was for some reason pissed at this stranger and he had him pressed against the wall, teeth bared like an animal, growling threats back and forth between each other. Being over six feet and pretty muscular, Ryder was easily a physically imposing guy which seemed to alarm the people around him even more. @ofsuperklutz

It had been very kind of the Matthews family to invite him to go with them to the movies then hang out with Riley at their apartment. Both Topanga and Cory seemed to like the young Dunbar so far. He couldn’t help but think that he was doing incredibly well after they invited him over. Lounging on the couch, blanket thrown over him and Riley, his eyes were locked on the tv screen. Only to be torn away when he felt Riley’s small body snuggled against his side. A small smile came to the boy’s face before he glanced in the direction of her parents and quietly prayed that they wouldn’t freak out if Ryder left Riley like that.@ofsuperklutz
