@ofthedelta liked for a starter!
It weighs on their mind, he knows. Despite his hurried attempts to smooth it over, Ralsei sees the way they stare at the Shadow Crystal, as if expecting it to reflect back to them some answers. Clearly a vague vision, not something they’re looking for... When Ralsei thinks about it, it’s hard to tell if Kris really checked, or the Entity did. A sobering thought, it is, that any of the reactions could be either of them; but Ralsei clings onto the idea that it’s Kris for the sole reason of it being something he can understand.
Upon arrival back in town, Kris headed back over to their room... And of course, Ralsei followed, with Susie lingering behind to spend time with Lancer now that he’s been restored. He watches them with a faint smile, hands politely lingering behind his back, remaining silent. He won’t part from them unless Kris specifically asks him to. After all, what if they need something from him?
(They should need something from him. That’s why he’s here, because they need him. Just as Susie needs him. Just as the Lightners need him, to prop them up, to serve them, just like everyone else in the Dark World.)
Ralsei would wait patiently in the silence for as long as Kris wanted him to, but the furrow in their brow prompts enough concern that the quiet becomes unnerving. He may know the Entity, he may know Kris, but he doesn’t know what either of them may be thinking. That’s information that isn’t provided within the text. And that measure of unpredictability means a lack of control over where Kris may be going with it.
It’s not surprising that it prompts him to speak.
* You, um... Didn’t get any of the cake before, did you? You know, since Susie ate the whole thing and all... Would you like some?
The question really ‘what’s on your mind?’ but that would prompt discussion. Discussion that he can’t have, especially when he doesn’t have anywhere else to direct the Entity.
(...so that’s why, OK, Kris?)
