This time, the answer was immediate. Unlike with Lucifer, he already knew the answer beforehand. And he knew that given the chance to either help the angel to safety, falling to his own death in the process, or save himself and lose his friend, he wouldn't have a moment of second thoughts.
He'd save Aziraphale every time.
But he would never, never say it aloud.

Circumstances were different now. He couldn't fall back on the excuse that he was trying to avert an apocalypse. Circumstances had changed. The silence stretched on for an eternity, or a few brief moments.
