☯ + meeting metis
Send me ‘☯ + a scene from my characters canon’ and I will drabble it from my character’s POV.
there was far more responsibility on his shoulders than there had been a few blissful months prior. gaia no longer lulled him to sleep with her deep, earthy lullabies. his mother didn’t bring him presents from the palace, instead she brought advice on how to fight, how to rule, how to be independent; zeus really missed the easy days of his childhood, living in blissful ignorance, running amongst the trees. the weight was starting to drag him down.
at least, until his grandmother brought a woman from the sea to be his mentor. someone who could spend more time with him. someone wise and beautiful and full of knowledge that zeus could only hope to one day possess. in retrospect, she’d become both a guide and a distraction, for her beauty was unmatched by anyone else he’d ever seen.
metis was a lovely woman. he couldn’t help but stare as she introduced herself, taking in the shine of her eyes, and her long dark hair. she exuded radiance, and her smile made the young god weak in his knees. as he came to his senses, realizing she’d asked him a question, his voice came out oddly high-pitched.
❛ oh! yes, this is my home. you’ve come to stay with me, then? teach me how to be a leader? grandmother says you have some ideas on how i could defeat my f-- cronus. ❜
metis nodded sagely, glancing to her left -- out towards the sea. ❛ there are many herbs in this world that could assist us. the ocean is home to many plants that could weaken cronus. some that would free your siblings, too. it will take patience, and a well thought out approach. but we could have the king usurped. ❜
the uncomfortable feeling in his stomach returned, and zeus struggled to keep his expression neutral. talking about the future of the kingdom made him feel incredibly nauseous. it was all so overwhelming; after all, they were asking him to kill his father, to ascend a throne that he’d never even seen before. to rule a kingdom he’d never set foot in. he was to free his siblings ; five of them, mother had said, but he hardly knew their names.
his inner turmoil must have become apparent, for metis reached out to cup his cheek. the gesture was soothing of his war nerves, but made a new sort of fear flutter in his stomach. she was close now, her beautiful eyes mere inches away. he met her gaze with a blush upon his cheeks.
❛ i know it is overwhelming, dear zeus. but that’s why i am here. we will figure this out together, and we will come out ever victorious. understood? ❜
zeus nodded, eyes dazed and heart pounding uncontrollably. yes -- he felt unstoppable when she looked at him. surely, metis could guide him through tartarus and back with a smile, couldn’t she?
