The turning point in Robert’s life was he and Booker attended the latter’s wife’s funeral. When Booker turned his back on him, Robert pulled a gun, prepared to take his life and then his own. However, in an uncommon twinge of conscience, Robert thought about Anna having to grow up without a father, ,what his own father did to him on a daily basis, and to his promise to her mother. He couldn’t trust anyone with the girl, and not only did he allow the man he hated most to live, he assisted him in bettering his life, put up with him at his worst, and considered him to be a friend. All for her.
